I usually start my search with expedia and then check the actual airlines. SOME times it turns out cheaper to buy from the airline, and sometimes not. Some times it's just the $4 savings from not using expedia's service, plus you may get extra miles from the airline.
Some newer discount airlines to check out (not sure if these are available for you) are AirTran and Allegiant Air. These you have to just go to their own website's like Southwest because they don't come up on Expedia.
