also keep in mind a neat trick in PSCS2/CS3.. if you have some text highlighted and want to scroll through it.. just hit Ctrl-H and the highlight will disappear (letting you see the text better) but it is really still highlighted... makes picking a font a lot easier.
Having over 400 fonts active in your system really eats up memory when adobe loads because it load each one you have active.. also makes loading PS very slow. I typically only have about 100 fonts active in my system and use a font manager (like the font thing) to activate the fonts I need for a particular project. Once I'm done with the project, I inactivate the fonts again. Keeps my memory usage low, let PS open in about 10 seconds and makes looking for fonts in the list much easier and quicker.. if you are already using the font manager, you might want to remove them from Windows/Fonts and then just activate as needed.
