I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes or covering something that has been done too much already, but I like to put parts of other pictures and other backgrounds inside of text. It can be done very easily, but I could never find a way to adjust the size of the text on the background I wanted to use without actually changing the font size each time and starting over.
I was fooling around the other night and came up with a neat way to accomplish it.
1. You already have your layout open.
2. Click on file and open, then browse and open the background or other picture you want to use to fill the text.
3. In your tools, click on the text tool. A fat or a very wide font works best. Also use a larger size for the font like 48 or 72.
4. To the right of the font selection where it says "create as", choose "selection".
5. Type your text on the open picture or background, and click apply. Your text will be outlined by those little marching ants.
6. On the top of your screen click on Selections and then click on Edit selection. Your text will turn red.
7. On the left side of your screen, click on the "pick" tool, it's right under the magnifying tool which is the top tool.
8. Using the Pick Tool, you can move and resize your text while still seeing your background through the text.
Be careful not to click outside of the text, because you will loose it and have to start over.
9. After you have resized and moved your text to where you want it, click your mouse outside of the text box.
A box will pop up saying the the pick tool will be reset. Just click OK . Your text will turn back into those little marching ants.
10. Now on the top of your screen, click on Edit, and click on Copy.
11. Now close your picture or background you were using to type your text. When the box pops up, make sure you click on Do Not Save changes.
12.Now you should be back showing your original layout that you want to place the text on. On the top of the screen click on Edit then click on "Paste as new Layer"
13. Now choose the Pick Tool again and move and resize the text as you wish.
14. For a little extra pop, go to the top and click on Effects and then click on 3D Effects, then click on "inner bevel".
A box will pop up saying the Pick tool will be reset so just click on OK. Choose your style and shading and color of your bevel and click OK.
15. Now go back to the top and click on "effects" again, go to 3D effects, and click on "drop shadow". when you have adjusted your drop shadow, click OK.
Pretty slick effect.
