I'm doing a very simple test of this. I have a white background and a patterned second layer. I do the text as you say above and link it to the layer below. It looks good, however when I try to position or move the text, the background I used on it is not constant. The text just moves around on the background I used. I want the background to stay in the same position that I placed it.
This is such an easy task in PSP but it's turning out to be very complicated in PS.
What I want to do in PS is a like procedure in PSP.
In PSP I open up a background, grab the text tool, and click on selection. I type my text, position it on the background where I want, Click edit, copy, and close the background window.
I open my layout and click "paste as a new layer", That's it.
I can then move it, add a drop shadow, or bevel or do many other adjustments.
I must be missing something in PS, because I have yet to be able to do this.
