Glad it helped you. I also never thought I would use so little hardness on a brush but it seems to do the trick pretty well.
To see your additional brush settings in PSP go to View>Palettes>Brush Variences. This will open a palette that you can dock to the workspace and adjust the different settings for your brush tip.

That basically was the only way I could get my head around which settings worked best for what I was trying to achieve! LOL
