you could build one of these like the article suggests (although I would be VERY careful attaching that hacked out lens cap to my $1500 digital body!.. or just go out and get yourself a used Lensbaby for around $100... google lensbaby and it will show you the same thing but built for your camera. They product some interesting effects.. basically the same with out of focus areas at strange angles. Note this effect can be easily done in photoshop too... check these out:

before

after

and here are the steps:

1. open photo in photoshop
2. hit Q to set Mask Mode
3. hit D to setup default colors
4. Click Inverse color icon over black/white color selector
5. Enter Gradient Color Mode
6. Setup the Gradient so it is using the cylinder (4th grad type)
7. Pick you focus point in the photo (about 1/3 way up is good)
8. Drag the gradient upwards at almost a straight line and let go
9. Hit Q and exit mask mode and then inverse the selection
10. Apply a lens blur with shape: hex, radius: ~57 and bright: ~40
11. Apply a curve with a sharp arc in the middle... the arc should exagerate the look of the photo and give it an artificial kinda look.

Let me know if you have questions...! Good Luck
