I went with the all in one. Reason well I have one now and the quality has been pretty good but the biggest reason is that my scanner part of my all in one dies my mom wanted me to scan all the family stuff for her... while looking at the stuff i found that my printer was now dying... so I found an all in one model that was discontinued to make way for the new one so i got it for a screaming deal. It had pretty much all that I wanted in both a printer and a scanner... You really have to decide what features are the most important to you. I needed both a printer and a scanner and If my mom was paying i was going to get the best of both worlds. And it was $100 less than the scanner alone with less features.
The way that I started was to wright down all the features that I HAD TO HAVE and then of course a list of the things that I would like to have. Then I called all the customer hot lines for all the company i would consider purchasing a printer from. I gave them my list of must haves ... they will give you a list of model numbers. Then take the model numbers and do a Google search. There is so much info out there. Company's that compare models people that compared . Some places even had video showing all of the features. I think i called all of the company's at least 3 times to make sure i got the same answers hehe. Then I just went on my preference. Some of them go tossed our fast.. and then when you come to the final few... what one gives you all of what you need and most of what you want.
I had a couple of verry unick featuers so my list was only incluede 1 scanner and 2 all in ones :O
