Hi Debbie
What are you tring to delete? It shoudl delete - Im thinking if you are trying to delete what you may not realise that the white canvas in DIP is actually transparent so try this
Use the inverse and then delete on your keyboard and then go to Insert> Shape > Square. Click on the paint bucket and choose any color which will fill teh shape.
Go to Format> Resize Object to Fit> Stretch to Fit and then move teh colored suare down the stack and underneath teh object - you shoul dthen be able to see that teh area has been deleted.

The eraser brush is found under Effects> Transparency> transparency Brush - push the opacity to 100% and then choose a brush size
