I second the canon scanners.. I have used and recommend the cheapo Canoscan 4400 if you can find one.. they are like $50 and do the job of $300 scanners...

However, any recent (<2 years old) scanner will be suffiencient. The slide attachments will not help you with the odd sized negatives anyway so just be sure to use 100% lamp power and scan at the highest resolution.. it will take awhile and create an enormous file.. but the results should be amazing.
