Well at least I am there with you!
My scanner has days where it leaves "Bands" on my scanned images. Then other weeks it will work fine!! It is a HP Scanjet 4670, love how I can take the glass top off and say scan a wall, carpet, bedspreads and such!
But hate the BANDS!!
I did check into this and it seems to be a common issue with this particular scanner.
