Doodle on a clean bright white peice of paper using a fine tipped art pen - In Australia they are called Artliners or you can use a Zig writer which is a scrapbooking pen brand.
Make sure your hands are clean so you dont smudge or dirty the paper and try not to brush back over where you draw.
Doodle your designs.
Scan - genrally best at 600ppi in tif.
Open in DIP
Use the Magic Wand to remove the white - zoom right in and remove any obvious missed bits with the transparency brush.
Then select Effects> Fill with texture or color> black to define the lines.
You can then use your Marquee Tool to seperate your doodles.
