Not surprised that some of them are .gif files. Especially the black and white ones. Just make sure when you save them that you aren't changing the file extension from the one assigned. That is, if it's named 1234.jpg, don't change it to 1234.gif or anything else. You can change the 1234 part, but not the .jpg or .gif part, that will make you get the error you mention. Try one more time to save the misbehaving files and see if it works.
