in PSE, you can also use the lasso tool to draw an irregular shape around the item you want to cut out if it won't fit into a rectangle. This is a little more akin to taking a scissors to a sheet of cut-outs. Then grab your move tool and drag it onto your LO. It will look like it's removing it from your original sheet of goodies but it leaves it there and copies to your LO!
