Put the DVD you burned into the DVD slot you burned it in. Go to Windows Explorer (where you look at your files) and click on My Computer. It ought to show you the DVD slot as a separate disk, and if you did the burn correctly when you click on it, it will open up and show you a file tree for that DVD. With any luck your files are there.

Now, if you want to burn a DVD that you can look at on the TV, that is a totally different project.

I suggest you buy the newest Roxio software. There will be a bunch of different applets in it. One is just "copy files" and it will put files on a CD or DVD. Another will make you a slide show for your TV or to see on the computer. It will open up automatically and you can have music and transitions. I've done this (only once I admit) with the version that is just one number earlier than the new one.

The files that you can see as a slideshow don't have the same resolution as the files you want as backup, so you need to do both. Don't let DH push you around on this. I'm very computer literate and when he wanted the slideshow we printed a full manual (from the Roxio CD) and killed a tree. I needed it printed out because I couldn't figure out exactly what to do until I did. Once I had the manual the entire process was so easy I'm embarrassed about killing the tree.
