copyright laws still fuzzy

This has been eating at me and i really need to know the answer because i don't want to cross any copyright boundaries...

On my website, I have a portfolio to display my scrapbook LOs. I'm trying to figure out if it is ok to post LOs using elements that someone else created. I am not offering any of the LOs to sell to people. Just showing examples of work that I've done. I don't know if it would be misleading to show LOs w/ elements i did not create.

Whenever someone hires me to create a LO for them, I plan to only use my own elements.

The only thing I can think of is how if I were doing Paper Scrapbooking, I more than likely would be buying all my papers and elements, so then it would be ok, right? Or would i have to ask permission to make money off of them? Really what I'm charging for is my labor to put something together...

it's such a fuzzy issue to me and i really hope someone can clear it up....

i've read the articles about copyrights, and still am not sure what i should do...
