I print 8x8's and 4x6 at walmart and figured out the following:
When printing 8x8 I had to resized the image to 99% then place it on a canvas of 8x10 ( I type in the white space the size for example 8x8 printed as 8x10
Sometimes I work in 4x4 (because my computer is slow) but then print in 8x8. For those I resize to 99% and place them on a canvas of 8x10 and type 4x4, printed as 8x8 on 8x10
I don't seem to loose any resolution by printing them this way, unless I start with a really bad photo.
When printing a 4x6 I resize to 98% then put it on a 4x6 canvas.
But I have found that the Kodak Picture maker needs a larger % change and then the canvas size to work.
I think it all depends on the actually computer in the store.
For a while I was taking a 8x6 layout, cutting it in half and printing 2 4x6's, and my layout would come out 2 different colors. I asked several times about the computer automatically color correcting, but actually messing 1 up. I was told their computer didn't do that, but they couldn't explain the differences in my photo's after I explained how I created them. Now (within the last month) there is a new box that is checked automatically that say's "Enhance Photo's". I uncheck that box and my layouts started coming out the right colors again!
