Which verson of PSE are you using? To adjust the height and depth on a shadow, you double-click on the little circle with the "F" to get a slider. If this doesn't help, duplicate the layer, apply the shadow to both, and then merge the two. This will increase the shadow effect. Since I found out about the double layer by accident, maybe this is what you did to get the effect that you are looking for? If you can post an example, i'm sure we could all try to figure out how to get the shadow you are looking for.
