Nope you're not missing anything. This is one of the issues that scrappers lament about PSE. Here's a couple of suggestions though... You can use an external font organizer like Font Thing to preview all your fonts. You can also set up categories for you fonts to help you find the "right" font more quickly. In PSE to quickly see what a font looks like create your text. With the text layer active and your text tool open change the font. PSE will automatically update the text for you. Do this as many times as you need to.

I struggle with this less know that I have a better grasp of what fonts I have installed. I often know that I want to use a certain font right off the bat. I do still use Font Thing alot when I'm creating word art though.
