one of the best parts about hosting a crop scraplifting someone's layout, aside from how flattered they usually (sometimes they say no, mostly because they've submitted the layout for publication as you said) is she'll often show up and tell you exactly how she did it! Or even if you just ask privately, she'll usually give a little instruction to her technique.
I rarely post my scraplifts, unless it's for some sort of challenge or crop, because I don't feel that a direct copy is showing original work. My dread is that I'll eventually forget it was a lift and submit it for publication
! I use my posting description and credits to show where I got the supplies or idea, and if I don't post I don't have a good way to record that info
