Hi Carrie

What software are you using?

My first thought looking at that example is that you don't have anti-aliase switched on when doing the fonts. Anti-alias prevents fonts from having those little "jaggies". It also looks like the image was re-sized disproportionately. Without knowing what software you use, I can only guess at what's going wrong.
