another option,

I creat in 12x12, but like you don.t have a large printer albeit,my printer is good.
So most of the time I print in 8x8 and put in 8x8 scrapbook. The 8x8 is a nice coffee table size. You can also put smaller pictures at the bottom of your layout since your paper is 8.5x11 and the cut them apart if you are concerned about wasteing that extra 2inches of paper

you can also take or send your files to a retail place and have them printed 12x12
