Slicing up a photo is an effective and fun technique that is easily accomplished in Digital Image Pro/Suite.
Place your photo on your layout or layout canvas.
Crop or resize your photo so that the height is easily divisible in inches. You can of course use other measurements but round numbers are easier to work with. In this case I have resized the photo to 6 inches high. You can see I have dragged ruler over to do this. If you can’t see the rulers choose View > Rulers. To move the rulers just click and drag.
Select the Marquee tool and the tool palette should open (if not click on the Selection button) Ensure the Square shape is selected. Deselect Shape Proportions. Make sure the Selection mode is in New.
With help from the rulers, draw out a rectangular marquee that is one inch high and the width of your photo. If you need to, choose Adjust marquee to correct its size. The height measurement should be as accurate as possible.
Select Edit > Cut
Edit > Paste
Then move the piece up and left.
Continue this process for each inch of height.
Select a piece and choose Effects> Edges>Highlighted
Select Thin Over and then Customize the edge
Select a color – white in this example. From the flyout menu select the square edge shape and adjust the edge width to suit – 15 is used here.
Select Done and repeat for each piece of the photo
Now you can position the pieces of your photo as desired and add shadows to each piece.
Add your own touch but using staples tape or ribbon to “hold” the pieces in place
