This tutorial will show you how to create text on a curvy path using Paint Shop Pro X.
1. Begin by creating a new layout at 300 dpi and a transparent background. The size will depend on how wide and tall your text will be. (File > New)
2. Select your Pen Tool (keyboard shortcut: V).
3. Choose black as your foreground color. Leave the background color transparent.
4. For your Pen Tool settings, select Draw Freehand with a Tracking of 50. Be sure Create on Vector box is checked.
5. The Line Style should be a solid line with a width of 3. Be sure Anti-alias is checked.
6. Using the Pen Tool, draw a curvy line. Try to keep your curves smooth with no abrupt turns.
7. You should now have two layers: the transparent background which should be a Raster layer and the layer that contains your curvy line which should be a Vector layer.
8. Switch to the Text Tool (keyboard shortcut: T) and select the font and font size. Be sure to create as Vector.
9. Choose the background color for your text. Leave the foreground color transparent.
10. With the Text Tool enabled, hover over the curvy line that you just drew until your cursor appears as an “A” with a curved line underneath it.
11. Click on the layout and begin typing your text. You might need to adjust your font size or kerning in order for the text to fit correctly. Be sure your text is highlighted if you need to make adjustments.
12. When you are happy with how your text looks, click Apply.
13. Now we need to get rid of the curvy line. On your Layer palette, you should now have under your Vector layer the curvy line (“new path”) and the text. If you don’t see the two separate items, be sure to click on the “+” sign to the left of your Vector layer.
14. Make the curvy line invisible by clicking the Visibility Toggle.
15. Your layout should now only reflect the text without the curvy line
16. Convert the Vector layer containing your text to a Raster layer (Layers > Convert to Raster Layer).
17. Be sure to experiment with different path styles
