PROGRAM BASIC: Installing Plugins

First of all your system needs the following msvcrt.dll and sometimes plugin.dll
Do a search of your system to see if you have them available already. Another way is to follow this tutorial and if your plug-ins don’t show up then you know you need the .dll files. Start with the msvcrt.dll first and you can find these by googling them.
For your plug-ins to work you really need these, so save them as follows in these places:

C:\Windows\System - for windows 98 or ME
C:\Windows\System32 - for windows 2000 or XP
If you use anything other than C drive then put them in the one you use.

Your “My PSP Folder” has a folder in there already called Plug-Ins, but I like to create my own and point my Preferences>File Locations to this new folder. That way if you run two programs that use the plug-ins they both can find the folder.

So I create a new folder named My Plug-Ins and let say we are going to unzip the plug-in Toadies, I would create a new sub-folder and name it Toadies. Extract the zip files to the Toadies Folder. Start PSP under File>Preferences> File Locations make sure you have the Plug-in location of your new folder added to the list so PSP will find them and open a new image so your tools become active then choose Effects menu> Plug-ins.
If they are greyed out, restart PSP. I have so many plug-ins that PSP created a Plugins 1 and Plugins 2 folder for me. How nice is that!!
Plug-Ins are such fun things and can do so much, from creating a watercolor image from you photo, pencil sketch, weaves, fabrics, textures, glows, emboss and gold charms. The newest plug-in that I just downloaded this morning comes from here http://www.geomantics.com/downloads.htm the fabric weaver plug-in.
This plug-in does an amazing job of creating very real textured materials with many presets to choose from.

You will see that some of these say PhotoShop compatible filters that basically means they work in PSP also!! You will find hundreds of Plug-Ins (often called filters) on the web. Many of them are repeated on many sites, some times a page or a link is not active so if you really want a plug-in you might have to search a little to find an active link to download, here are a few sites to get you started.
