Keyboard shortcuts are keystrokes on
your keyboard that will help you increase your productivity when creating
layouts. Some menu options that are frequently used offer shortcut keys which
can be viewed on the right side of any drop down menu.
In the following image, the File menu
has been clicked. You can see the command on the left side of the menu and the
corresponding keystrokes on the right side of the menu. Note that some commands
require a combination of keystrokes, typically the control key, the shift key or
the alt key.
To execute a keyboard shortcut,
simply press and hold the indicated keys on your keyboard until the command is
fulfilled. For instance, to create a new document, press the control key on
your keyboard and type in the letter “N”. The New Image menu will pop up which
can now be edited to suit your layout requirements.
When executing a keyboard shortcut,
be sure to press and hold each of the keys in the order that it appears (Control
key, then N…NOT N then Control key.) It is not necessary for the letter to be
capitalized (Ctrl+N is the same as Ctrl+n).
