Making custom shapes using the Marquee selection tool’s + and – feature is quick and simple.

Open a pre-made background

OR

Open a new canvas, size to suit, remove the line and add colour.

Using the + feature only:

Select the Marquee tool

Click on the arrow next to the shapes box to open the menu.

Select a shape and using the left mouse button, drag out your shape.

Click on the + button.  Select a different shape if needed then drag out your shape as before.

If adjustments are needed click on Adjust marquee

Use the resizing handles to adjust size or rotate.

On the Palette:  Click Done.  **Important.  If you don’t click Done you will have to start over.

On the Palette:  Click on Invert to select the opposite area.

On the Toolbar click on Cut img border="0" src="http://www.sbbelements.com/team/tutorials/ONSITE/DIP/kimlizzy_DIP_customshape/image018.jpg">

Click on the Object tool

Right click on the canvas and select Auto Fit………..

Save as PNG to retain the transparency.

Using both the + and – feature:

On the palette click on the New Selection button

Select your shape and mark it out.  I used the square.

Click on the + button on the palette

Select your shape and mark it out.  I used the shell.

Make any adjustments (as above).  Don’t forget to click on Done when finished.

Click on the – button on the palette

Select your shape and mark it out.  I used the rectangle wave.

Make any adjustments (as above).  Again, don’t forget to click on Done.

Select Invert on the palette.

Click on the cut button  then on the Object tool

Right click and “Auto Fit to Canvas” (as above)

Save as PNG to retain the transparency.

Option:  Save your shape as a template for later use.

With your shape open go to Effects/Fill with colour or texture.  Select a basic colour.  I always use basic grey for all my templates.  Save as PNG to retain the transparency.

To use, just fill with colour, texture, picture or pre-made backgrounds.
