File > New Image > transparent background, 12 inch width and 1 inch height is perfect for a stitch or ribbon.
Choose the TEXT and click in the window to open the text box. Fill the text box with a dash to make a stitch.
Object> shadow > mark box with a check and then you will get a shadow behind your stitching
VOILA! You've got a stitch! Play with different fonts to get different types of stitching.
