PROGRAM BASIC: Turning a Color Photo into Black and White with Photoshop Elements 3

This tutorial will show you how to create a black and white version of a color photo.

  1. Open the color photo in PSE.
  2. Go to Enhance> Adjust Color> Remove Color or use the keyboard shortcut CTRL+SHIFT+U to desaturate the photo.
  3. The resulting black and white image will most likely look very flat. Go to Enhance> Adjust Lighting> Levels… and move the black, white and midtone points around until you get an appealing result.
