This tutorial shows how to create either a flat or rippled grosgrain ribbon in PSE.
- Open a new file that is 12 inches tall, .5 inches wide and a resolution of 300 dpi.
- Set your foreground color to be the basic color of your ribbon and the background color to a slightly darker version
of the foreground color. For this example I set the foreground to #F49AC1 and the background to D97BA4.

- Select the entire layer (CRTL+A) and fill it with the foreground color.

- Switch the foreground and background colors (keyboard shortcut: X).
- Create a new layer (keyboard shortcut: CTRL+SHIFT+N)
- Open the Brush tool. Select the diameter 19 hard round brush and set the brush opacity to 70%.
- Hold down the SHIFT key and drag the brush along both sides of the ribbon. Holding down the
SHIFT key forces you to draw just vertical or horizontal lines.

- Add a Simple Inner Bevel to the brushed edges. Adjust the size of the bevel if desired. I used an size 18 pixel bevel in
the example.

- Make the main part of the ribbon the active layer and select Filter> Sketch> Halftone Pattern from the main tool bar. Set
the pattern type to Lines with a size of 3 and a contrast of 20.

You can stop now and use your flat grosgrain ribbon or continue on to add a ripple
to your ribbon.
- Rotate the entire image 90 degrees (Image> Rotate> 90° Right)
- Set the foreground color to white.
- Open the Gradient tool.

- Click the down arrow next to the sample gradient and then the right arrow.

- From the list of gradient sets, select Special Effects.
- From the Special Effects gradients, select Soft Stripes.

- On a new layer, loosely click on the left end and then the right end of the ribbon.

- Change the gradient layer’s mode to multiply.

- Before taking your new ribbon into a layout make sure to flatten it (Layer> Flatten Image).
