HOT BYTES
What’s HOT in computer scrapping!
By and © April Anderton

Trends come and go so quickly it’s hard to keep up. Here are just a few things that have been popping up on paper and computer generated layouts alike.

Text Transparencies/Overlays
Paper scrappers are just discovering the joys of text overlays. They are printing out their text on transparencies and adhering them to their pages. We, as digital scrappers, know that there is an easier way! Check out these layouts using text ‘overlays’ and see if you can come up with some great overlays yourself!

Washer Words
Time to raid the toolbox! First it was screw heads, then brads, and wire. Now these little guys can be found on pages everywhere! Washers…YES, I said washers! The kind you find in the bottom of tool box. The kind you can never find when you need one. The new header at SBB even has one with its name on it! Whether the washers are scanned or digitally created, they can add a little gleam to your layouts. Try it!

Montage!
Different opacities, sizes, and saturations give a layout depth, imagination, and feeling. One thing I love about montages is that they express so much with so few words... so I will shut up and let you marvel in these wonderful images. If you would like to see layouts by a MASTER please visit this gallery: http://www.scrapbook-bytes.com/gallery/showgallery.php?mcats=all&si=&what=allfields&name=matyi&when=&whenterm=

WHAT’S NOT:

You all know it by now…NOT SCRAPPING is NOT HOT!! GET BUSY!

Remember that even elements that are HOT right now can quickly become cliché if overused, so keep your own personal style shining bright while applying these and other techniques.

Of course, the real judge of what’s hot in scrapping is what’s happening on YOUR layouts, so get to it!

April's sketch
by Gina Cabrera

Each month, the Design Team puts out a sketch and the members at Scrapbook-Bytes create an original, creative layout following the design of that sketch.  At the end of the month, the Design Team votes for three winners to be featured here!  This month's sketch belongs to Design Team Member Gina Cabrera.

The competition was steep and votes were extremely close!  All the participants did a fantastic job and we'd like to give all of you a huge pat on the back!!!  Thank you to all who submitted a layout!

The winners will receive a voucher to use at our new online store worth the price of an EZine! Congratulations!

Title: Sela's Favorite Things
Name: Roseanne Miske
SBB Name: Ramiske
Program: Photoshop CS
Fonts: Title font is "A Yummy Apology"
Journaling is 2Peas Sunshine

Techniques and credits:
Vellums and charm from Margie Lundy's CD; Bkg paper from Digital Scrapbook Design.com; for the pictures of the toys, I went to BabiesRUs.com and found the pictures....except for the pacifier, which I photographed.

Title of Layout: Sassy New Haircut
Your Name: Anna Leisa Ely
SBB Screen Name: annaelycm
Program Used: Photoshop 7
Fonts Used: Broadway BT

Techniques and Credits: All Elements were made by me in Photoshop using filters, styles and textures. The blue sun type element and the metallic frame were made using Photoshop shapes and adding styles, drop shadows and contouring.

Background was made to look like a crinkled paper using textures, and then additional backgrounds were made to look like woven cloth and hand stitching.

The only Font used was Broadway BT. The name title was made to look like hand embroidery in blue with a black outline stroke applied to look like outline stitching. Other text had drop shadows, and Plastic Wrap filter applied.

Title of Layout: Rylee Jenae
Your Name: Stacey Mann
SBB Screen Name: SMMann
Program Used: Photoshop CS
Fonts Used: BigMisterC

Techniques and Credits: I changed the hue/saturation of the dragonfly background by Lauren Bavin to better match my photos and moved the dragonflys around with copy and paste to fit the LO. I used the border from Bambi's Blue & Green Swirl kit and also modified the colors to match.

Excerpt from Kristie Wickland's Review:
This amazing cd from Maya and www.scrapbookgraphics.com is a must have to add to your collection. The massive amounts of elements and kits will keep you busy for a very long time. The versatility and flexibility of all the ScrapSets is simply outstanding. You can use elements from one set and mix them with others and they fit amazingly well together. Your creativity will soar with every click of the mouse. Each element brings a beautiful touch to your layouts. (A more in depth review is availablein the April 2004 issue of Tid-Bytes.)

Below are some samples our Design Team Members submitted using Maya's new CD! More layouts can be seen in our April 2004 Issue of Tid-Bytes.
