ELEMENT: Easy Inked Edges

You can use the Inner Glow layer style to quickly add inked edges to your elements and papers.

Open an element. A simple tag works well.

Double click the tag layer on the layers palette to open the Layer Style dialogue. Select Inner Glow from the menu at left by clicking on the words.

The default glow is a yellow shade set to screen mode. Inked edges are usually black or dark brown though they could be any color you like. I am going to use the eye dropper to pick the darkest color in the tag. Click on the color block and choose the color.

Now change the blending mode to Multiply.

Move down to increase the size of the glow. The amount will depend on the element you are using. The color will be darkest at the edge and soften as it moves inward.

Change the way the edge looks by adjusting the contour. Check anti-aliased and then click on the arrow and choose a contour. Your choice may vary with the element. Notched Slope is the choice I have made here. I have also increased the Jitter which affects the glow to 100%

Finally tweak the inked edge by reducing or increasing the size and opacity as desired. In this example I have also introduced a small amount of noise to the edge.

You can use these simple steps to apply inked edges to papers, elements and text.
