Place your curl over the paper – make sure there are no gaps in the curl and it extends past the edges of the paper slightly.
Use CTRL+ Click the image thumbnail to select the paper curl. The marching ants will appear
With the selection active, choose the paper layer and use CTRL+J to duplicate the curl template from the paper to be curled.
Use CTRL+ Click the layer thumbnail to select the paper curl
Select the Magic Wand Tool and on the Options bar make sure tolerance 0 and Contigous checked
With the paper curl layer still selected and the selection (marching ants) active, choose which part of the paper you want to delete. Click in the section with the Magic Wand Tool. The selection (marching ants) will then encompass that space.
Choose the paper layer and press DELETE on your keyboard to remove the unwanted area. Get rid of the marching ants by using CTRL+D to deselect.
Select and move the paper curl you cut from the paper above the tear template layer.
Change the blending mode. Multiply works best for darker colors – in this case the lighter color needs two layers of different blending modes – Multiply and Soft Light.
If the results of the curl are too uniform due to the pattern, do the following:
Hide the curl cut from the paper, choose the curl template and move it up the paper so you can select a different part of the pattern.
CTRL+click on the layer thumbnail to create a selection, choose the paper layer and use CTRL+J to make a duplicate of the page curl from the paper. Move the duplicate to the layer above the template and change the blend mode as desired.
Select both curls and return to the correct position.
To use a solid color for the curl, select the curl template layer and double click to open the Layer Style dialogue.
Select Color Overlay and use the color picker to choose a color. Change the blend mode to suit and then OK.
Finally, merge the template curl and any of the curl layers and add and appropriate shadow.
Merge the paper and curl together.
