This tutorial will demonstrate how to create thread and “sew” your button onto a layout.
Open a button to your workspace. This button is from ActionFX.com

Create a new layer by clicking on the new layer icon and choose your brush tool (keyboard shortcut B), open your brush palette and click on Brush Tip Shape (PSCS3 workspace shown here). Choose a basic round hard brush at 3px
Zoom in so you are at a comfortable viewing level (View here is 200%)
Select a color for your thread and draw in some threads that extend past the holes diagonally
.
Create a new layer and draw in threads for the other direction.
*You can add a pattern overlay to both of these layers to mimic the texture of thread or leave it plain.
Duplicate the 2nd layer of thread (CTRL +J), rotate and arrange the threads to create more bulk.
Add a small drop shadow to this layer by double clicking on the layer and accessing the drop shadow menu in the Layer Style palette. The distance used here is 1px and the size 2px – the opacity has also been reduced.

Zoom out to View> Actual Pixels to judge the amount of shadow needed. The effect may vary according to the color of the thread. Select OK
Right click on the layer and choose Copy Layer Style and then right on the other two thread layers in turn and choose Paste Layer Style
Click on the first thread layer and duplicate the layer (CTRL +J), rotate and arrange the threads to create more bulk.
Select all the thread layers by holding down CRTL and clicking on each layer, then right click and select Merge Layers. This will flatten the threads together.
Choose the Eraser from the tools palette and using a small hard round brush erase the ends of the thread that extend past the button holes (it may help to temporarily reduce the thread layer opacity so you can see the edge, zoom in if required.
Return the opacity to 100%
Zoom back to View> Actual Pixels and from the tool palette select the Burn tool. You may need to adjust the settings on the Options bar according to the color thread you are using
Brush over the edges of the thread where it meets the holes – make sure you cover the tips well
As an option, duplicate the thread layer and drag it under the button and rotate for an additional dimension effect.
Merge the layers and use the button on your layout!
The threads for these buttons were created the same way
