Technique: How to Create a Soft Focus Effect Using Paint Shop Pro X
Plug-in filters are fun to use on your photos, but did you know you can use Paint Shop Pro to create similar photo effects? This tutorial will show you how to create a soft focus effect on your photos without having to use a plug-in filter. (TIP: Took a great photo but it’s slightly out of focus? This technique will work wonders!)
1. Let’s start by opening an image and creating a duplicate of it (Shift+D). Close the original photo. For this tutorial, I’ll be using a photo my son took of our neighbor’s dog, Otis.

2. Click on Adjust > Softness > Soft Focus.

3. The Soft Focus window will pop up. This is where you get to experiment. Try different numbers in the various fields. The following settings are my personal favorite.

4. Click OK and you’re done!
