Open a New File: File New Blank File. Set size to 3x3 inches. Set resolution to 300dpi. In the menu bar, choose View and Grid and select Snap to Grid.

Select the Shape Tool and choose Ellipse.

Set foreground color to light grey or silver by clicking in the Color box, choosing More Colors and then moving the color-selection circle to a grey-silver colored portion of the screen. Click OK.

Draw a large circle by starting in upper right-hand corner and holding down left mouse button while dragging down to lower left corner. Release mouse button when bottom is reached. Simplify. Now you have a large grey-colored circle on the screen. Simplify the shape.

Now, make another circle using the Ellipse Tool. Reset the foreground color to white using the same procedure as described above and draw another circle inside the first one, by starting in one grid from the top and drawing an ellipse as above.

Use the Move tool to resize the circle so that it is exactly one grid from the edge of the first circle all the way around. Simplify the layer. This circle will make up the inside part of tag.

You should now have two layers in your project—one large silver/grey colored circle and a slightly smaller white circle. Highlight the smaller white circle in the Layers Palette and select the Magic Wand Tool.

Move the Magic Wand over to the white circle (Shape 2) and click. You will be asked to Simplify the shape. Click OK.

The white circle should be highlighted by “dancing dashes” border.

While the dashes dance around the white circle, highlight the large silver/grey circle in the Layers Palette.

Hit the Delete key. This will make a hole the size of the white circle in the silver/grey circle (Shape 1). You won’t notice anything different on the screen, but in the Layers Palette you will see the silver/grey circle (Shape 1) will look like a donut. If asked to Simplify the shape, do so by clicking OK and hit the Delete key again.

With Shape 1 highlighted in the Layers Palette, go to Layer Styles in the Styles and Effects Palette. Now choose Bevels. Click on Simple Inner. This should make the silver/grey circle look more rounded.

Or, to give this tag a metallic sheen, choose Wacky Metallic instead of Simple Inner on the Bevels menu.

Select Shape 2 in the Layers Palette.

Now make the small hole in the tag. Use the Zoom tool to move in to the top part of your tag.

Select the Ellipse Tool and draw a small circle in the top part of the white circle (Shape 2). Make it the same grey color as Shape 1. Make sure this new layer is on top of Shape 1 and Shape 2. Simplify this circle (Shape 3). To punch this hole out of Shape 2, make sure this small circle (Shape 3) is highlighted in the Layers Palette.

To “Punch” out this hole, follow the same procedure as in step 7. Use the Magic Wand tool to select the small circle (Shape 3). You may need to click outside the large circle on to deselect Shape 2 and then click inside Shape 3 to select the small circle. If asked, be sure to Simplify the layer.

When it is highlighted with the dancing dashes, select Shape 2 in the Layers Palette and then hit the Delete key.
Nothing should change on the screen, but you will notice that Shape 2 will have a hole in it.

If you want just a plain hole in your tag, delete Shape 3 (Layer 3) and save your tag. Click outside your tag to turn Magic Wand off.

If, however, you want to make your tag appear to have an eyelet around the punched hole, do the following: Select the Ellpise Tool. Inside the small circle (Shape 3), draw a circle, making sure there is a small border between the new circle and Shape 3. Zoom in, if necessary, and use the Move tool to make this circle the right size. It might help to have this new circle white—change the color as described above.

Repeat the same steps used previously to punch out this smallest circle from Shape 3. With Layer 4 selected in the Layers Palette, use the Magic Wand tool to highlight Shape 4 (the smallest circle).

Simplify the shape if asked. Once it has dancing dashes around it, select Layer 3 in the Layers Palette.

Hit the delete key. This will leave a small grey rim around the punched hole in your tag.

In the Styles and Effects Palette, choose Bevels and Simple Inner or Wacky Metallic to create your eyelet.

To empty the hole, delete Shape 4.

Don’t forget to turn off Magic Wand tool by clicking outside your document area.

Save your tag. Use the color picker to change colors on your tag, as desired, or use the “punch-out” technique and use digital patterned paper to fill the tag. Or, try a favorite font to make a monogram tag. When your tag is how you like it, choose Layers and Merge Visible and save. Try making square or other shaped tags! Have fun being creative with your tags! Digital Papers for these tags from the Funky Papers Collection by Cynthia Derousseau downloaded from Scrapbook-bytes.com.
