Have you noticed when you combine several objects to create
a shape that if you try to add a gallery preset that you get an error? There’s
an easy way around this.
I’ve created a bone shape by using four circles and a
rectangle. Now I want to combine these objects, and add a metallic preset to
make a charm.
When I select the metallic preset that I want to use, I get
an error. To get around this I go to Edit/Trace/Selection Marquee. The
following box will pop up:
Leave the settings at the default, or set the tolerance to
a lower number for more accuracy in the trace then choose okay. You will now
have a red box around your object. Choose the pick tool and you will see that
an identical shape has been drawn right over your original shape. This shape is
a path though. Drag the path off your original shape.
Now as you can see you’ll be able to add presets to your
new shape, just select the shape tool and you will now be able to make
adjustments to it where you couldn’t before. If you no longer need the first
shape, you can now delete it and work with the new one.
