The Retrograde Photo Blends by shelleyrae designs are designed to add unique effects to your photos. They are simple to use in any software program that supports blend modes.

A Retrograde Photo Blend will react differently with each photo, affected by the tones and colors in the photograph on which it is placed. You can cycle through the blend modes available to find the effect which best suits your photo. Adjust the opacity of the photo blend to fine tune the result.
This tutorial demonstrates the use of the Retrograde Photo Blends in Photoshop CS4 , tool/menu locations and names may vary in your software program.
Open a photograph of your choice. Resize or crop to 5x7 inches.

Select and open a Retrograde Photo Blend of your choice. Here I have chosen Retrograde Blend 4.

With the move tool selected, and while holding the SHIFT key, drag the Photo Blend onto the photo. Holding the SHIFT key while dragging will ensure the Photo Blend centres in the document.

On the layers palette, find the blend mode menu

Click on the arrow to access the blend mode options.

Click to select a blend mode and see the result. Overlay is shown here.

Once you have selected the most appropriate effect, you can modify the effect by changing the opacity of the Photo Blend layer.

If the effect is not what you desired select another photo blend and repeat the steps above, experiment with varying blend modes.
This uses Retrograde Photo Blend 2 set on Multiply.

In this photo I used Retrograde Photo Blend 8 to frame part of the image for creative effect.

Enjoy using Retrograde Photo Blends by shelleyrae designs.
