This tutorial describes one of the many ways to add color or pattern to a paper template.
Open the paper template you wish to use and make a duplicate (File> Duplicate)

Create a new layer by clicking on the new layer icon

Click on the foreground color picker and select your desired shade. Click OK

Press ALT+Backspace on your keyboard to fill the new layer with your color.

CTRL and click on the paper template image thumbnail to create a selection. Make sure your colored layer is still selected. The marching ants to mark your selection will be visible.

Press CTRL+J on your keyboard to create a copy of the selection in a new layer.

Delete or hide the middle layer.

Now experiment with the layer blend modes - usually multiply is most effective.

You can get also use pattern paper rather than a solid color. Follow the same steps as above to shape the paper, and change the blend mode to multiply. If the paper you are using has strong colors or patterns, try duplicating the paper template and moving it above the paper and changing the blend mode so that the paper has more definition.
