Supplies:
Brown Paper Bag (lunch sack size, mine measured about 5x11)
Digital Scrapping Supplies
Scissors and/or paper trimmer
Ribbon for Handles
Adhesive
Hole Punch
Miscellaneous Embellishments
Chipboard – optional

Step #1
Fold the bottom flap of the sack down so that you have a flat working space on both the front and back of your sack (this will kind of look like an upside down “y”).

Step #2
Trim your sack to the desired finished size. I wanted to make a small, square sack. Since my sack was about 5” in width, I trimmed to about 5”.

My bag, folded and trimmed to size.

Step #3
Create a new document in your preferred scrapbooking software that is a little bigger than your trimmed sack (mine is 5.5x5.5). Pick the perfect kit for your gift sack and create a layout. I used the awesome “Play It Loud Add-On” by Shelleyrae, it was perfect! Be sure to save your work! NOTE: If you don’t digi scrap, or don’t want to on this, just create a paper layout, both ways are awesome on this project! For extra fun, you could make the front side into an open up card with a special message inside.

My finished layout, ready to print!

Step #4
When your layout is finished, print out two copies on cardstock and trim to size.

My layouts, printed and trimmed, and embellishments - ready to decorate!

Step #5
Add embellishments of your choice to one of the copies, this will be the front of your gift sack, so go all out, add dimension and textures. You can also print out an extra copy of your layout and cut out some of the pieces and adhere with “pop dots” or some other foam adhesive to add more dimension. (I added silver, square brads at the bottom, a bottle cap that I painted lime green – to add dimension I squeezed a generous amount of paint onto the flattened bottle cap and dabbed the paint around with a q-tip, then I sprinkled a little bit of black embossing powder onto wet paint – and glitter glue to the letters – I didn’t want anything to look fru-fru because this is for a boy, but I LOVE glitter!) If you’ve done any painting or gluing, make sure it is completely dry before continuing.

My embellished front!

Step #6
Adhere one copy to each side of gift sack.

Step #7
Punch 2 holes near the top of the sack (make sure you punch through all layers so that there are holes on both sides of the gift sack). Cut 2 lengths of ribbon for the handles of the gift sack, giving yourself a little extra in order to tie knots.

Step #8
Open up your sack and thread each end of one piece of ribbon into a hole on the front side of gift sack. Tie a knot in both ends that is big enough to keep the ribbon from coming out of the hole. Repeat on the backside.

Step #9
Optional: cut a piece of chipboard or heavy cardstock a little smaller than the bottom panel of your gift sack and insert into the bag. This will give more stability – the bag can hold more and it will stand up better.

Now, go make an awesome gift sack, or two, or three, and upload them to your gallery at scrapbook-bytes.com for us all to see.
