You know what I am talking about, all those fun little glitter sparkly marks that wander and meander across your paper! These are easily created in PSP especially if you happen to own a Wacom tablet, but fortunately you can create the same effect by using your mouse!
The first thing to look for in your collection of brushes is something that is different and usually a solid brush image, while a semi-transparent brush mark will work it will not lay down a solid filled dust trail.
Brushes like this will work the best, they can be a small grouping of images like the stars, retro circles and hearts or single brush images like the flower, swirl and deco design.

After you find one you like, select it as your brush that we will use and adjust its brush variance. This is what my star brush looks like in it default state, pretty blah and straight forward, not very pretty is it?

So next we need to open our Brush Variance Palette and play around with a few of those wonderful settings to make our brush react in a trailing pattern that will recede and grow, twisting and turning to place our brush images in a randomized pattern like these two examples.

It really helps to have two really pretty colorful patterns picked for your foreground and background colors in the materials palette.

Remember you can lock your palette layer transparency and use bucket fill to change the pattern or color anytime you wish.
The settings in the Brush Variance palette will depend on the look you wish, for example the spacing, direction of travel, how many impressions will be placed per step.

Here is a sample of my trailing dust, using a different bush tip with the same settings as above. To darken my brush marks I did duplicate the brush layer 2-3 times and merged them. Next I added a slight drop shadow (which can not be seen in this enlarged 72ppi example, since these dust trails are usually smaller sized specs of light on a paper it is hard to show a good clear example of this finished element).
You can also apply all the other effects in the Effects Menu to your brush layer for different types of styled dust brushwork. I also added a few white sparkle tubs on a new layer and adjusted the blend mode and opacity of them. You can add all sorts of little gems and extra tubes to your dust trail.
Hopefully you will spend a little time setting up one or two of your own brushes with these brush variances so you can make your own trailing dust splatter marks.
