Using a Layered Template to create a Hybrid layout

One of the things I like most about hybrid is the ability to have access to all of the beautiful digital papers and still scrap traditionally if I want to. In this tutorial, I’ll be using a layered template (created for digital scrapping) to create a traditional layout, in other words - Hybrid!

We all know using a template is an easy way to get a great layout without all the guess work of arranging items on your page. I loved the look of this simple template by Sarah VanDyke in her Snappy Scraps Collection, so I decided to use it to create my layout.

I began by resizing the template from 12x12 to 8x8 so I would be able to print it with my home printer. After filling all the layers with the digital papers of my choice, I cut and copied the individual layers onto a separate document to print them out.

After printing, I cut out the individual layers so I could assemble them on my page to recreate the look of the digital template (but in a traditional layout).

I love dimension and distressing so I curled, chalked and roughed up the edges of some of the layers prior to adding them to the layout. With everything ready, I re-assembled the layers onto my page. I added “real” flowers and brads to the corner of the photo (where the elements were in the template) and stamped the date in the lower corner of the layout.

Now I have a hybrid layout – all of the papers are digital, the template I used to size and print the papers from was digital but the result is a traditional layout.
