This tutorial contains some trips for centering layer objects in Photoshop.

*TIP* If you are dragging a paper onto an open document you can ensure that it is centered by holding down SHIFT as you drag (make sure the move tool is selected) from one document to another.

Centering layer objects
In the example below I have dragged two elements onto my paper. I wish to position the flower in the center of the paper and then the button so it is centered on the flower.

With the move tool selected, CTRL and click on the paper layer. This will create a selection with the marching ants around the edge of the document.

Keep this selection active and then click to select the layer you wish to center.

On the Options bar, find the icon for Aligning Vertical center and click. The object will move within the document.

On the Options bar, find the icon for Aligning Horizontal center and click. The object will move and should now be centered within the document.

I can then repeat these same steps for the button.
Keep the selection active and then click to select the layer you wish to center.
On the Options bar, find the icon for Aligning Vertical center and click. The object will move within the document. On the Options bar, find the icon for Aligning Horizontal center and click. The object will move and should now be centered within the document.

You can use this same method to center layer objects upon another layer object.
Select the flower using CTRL + click

Keep this selection active and select the layer of the object you wish to center

On the Options bar, find the icon for Aligning Vertical center and click. The object will move within the document. On the Options bar, find the icon for Aligning Horizontal center and click. The object will move and should now be centered within the object selection
