You can easily keep track of credits for a layout right in Photoshop – no more notepads or pieces of paper cluttering up your desk.
Open you canvas and then find the Note Taking icon on the Tools Palette, click to activate.
Move the cursor to the canvas and draw out a box. Usually the top left hand corner is the best place if you are right handed. When you release the mouse the notepad will appear. Your registered name shows at the top.
As you add items to your layout simply type in the relevant credits
To hide the note pad, click the x symbol and it will revert to a small notepad icon
The icon will not print on your layout nor be visible when you save the layout. The notepad will remain with the layout in PSD format when it is reopened in Photoshop but will no longer be attached to layouts saved in other formats such as jpg or png.
Double click the icon to reopen at any time and continue adding credits. You can copy and paste the information in the note to any other program – even straight into the gallery.
Right click the notepad icon to delete the note from the layout.
You can also paste the information in the properties of a jpg file. Copy the note info and then right click the saved JPG on your hard drive. Choose Properties> Summary and then paste the information in to the Comments section. The credits will then remain with the jpg file as EXIF Data
Another alternative is to use the File info option in Photoshop.
Right click on the image bar and choose File Info
Add the information to the Description section. This information remains with the PSD file, and a saved JPG (and other file formats) but is only viewable in Photoshop (File> File Info) The information does not appear to remain for a PSD file saved using Save for Web and Devices option.
The note tools are handy not only for keeping credits but also for making notes on effects you have achieved, photo information and more.
