Folded Ribbons
Select a premade, or create, a ribbon for this tutorial. Thicker ribbons are easiest to work with using this technique.
Open the ribbon to your canvas.
The first task is to divide the ribbon into overlapping sections of different lengths. Use the Marquee tool to select a piece from the far left and use CTRL+J to make a duplicate of the piece. Move the piece down slightly so you can see the edges.
With the whole length ribbon layer selected, use the Marquee Tool to select the next piece ensuring it overlaps the first. Move the piece down slightly so you can see the edges.
Continue this process until you reach the right edge of the ribbon.
Hide the intact ribbon layer.

Arrange the pieces of the ribbon as desired. You can change the layer order or move the pieces to determine the amount of overlap/fold.
When you are happy with the arrangement, select the second piece which should overlap the first. The aim is to give the edge a fold so the very edge should be darker and then soften into the length of the ribbon.
Select the burn tool and then select a soft edged brush at the default exposure of around 9% You may need to vary the amount according to the color of the ribbon. Applying the burn is best done in several strokes rather than a single stroke. Zooming in will help.
[Please note the burn has been slightly exaggerated on these screenshots for demonstration purposes]

Repeat this on each ribbon edge that over laps a piece below it.
Now select the first layer and use the burn tool to first create a shadow on the left and top edge from the top piece. This should be fairly narrow but still quite diffuse.
To create the back fold, select the Rounded Rectangle Tool from the tool palette. On the options bar select the paths and set the Radius to around 9px.
Draw out a rectangular shape similar to what is shown. Ensure that the path is kept within the borders of the ribbon piece, and if the ribbon is patterned be careful with the area chosen
Switch to the Paths palette and click on the Make selection from Paths icon.
Switch back to view the Layers palette and then use CTRL+J to create a piece.
Select the move tool and then use the arrow keys to nudge the position of this piece so that it rounds the edge of the bottom piece. Select both layers and merge.

Switch back to view the Layers palette and then use CTRL+J to create a piece.
Select the burn tool and darken this piece slightly so that is distinct from the pieces above and below it.

Tilt this piece so it sits from corner to corner and creates the fold.
Use the burn tool to touch up the fold.
These steps should now be repeated for each section, until the ribbon is complete.
Lastly select all the pieces and merge to create the ribbon and use on your layout.
