A quick guide to using layered templates in PSP

PSP is not able to open layered TIFF files. You are able to open layered PSD files in PSPX, however if there are drop shadows applied you will get an error.
Just click ok – aside from drop shadows you can later apply yourself – all features are intact.
With your template open, select your first layer – I’ll start with the background. I’ve opened up the paper I want to use as my background and Ctrl C to copy - back in my template file I Ctrl L to paste in my background as a new layer since my paper and layer are the same size. I then merged the layer down.
Next I want to start filling in the Rays. Open the paper(s) you want to use for the rays. Return to your template and select the foreground properties box and change your pattern to your first paper choice, adjusting angle and scale to fit your needs.
Now select your magic wand tool and use the following settings: Mode: Add (Shift) Match Mode: RGB Value; Tolerance: 0 Sample Merged: not selected; Feather: 0; Anti Alias : checked; Outside
Click within the layer you have selected. This should have marching ants around your layer
Now select the fill tool 
Click on your layer and it will be filled with your patterned paper
I’ve continued this process for all papers
If you want to fill a layer with an entire paper (as I did with the photo mat layer) copy the paper (or portion of paper) and Ctrl Shift L into selected layer. This also works well with your photos, just make sure your photo is about the same size as your layer to avoid distortion. Now add elements and text as desired.
