PROGRAM BASIC: Saving Layouts for Posting in the Gallery DIP 10/DIS2006

Layouts uploaded to the gallery at Scrapbook-Bytes must be under 125kb in jpg format.
Below are three methods for resizing your layouts. The first virtually eliminates the problems DIP has with texture compression!
Firstly ensure you have a saved your layout in the native/default format of png plus! To avoid accidently overwriting your original, make a duplicate by choosing Edit> Duplicate Whole Picture
This next step is optional but I find it can help. Select Edit> Flatten All Objects
Now choose from one of the methods below.
METHOD 1
For DIS 2006 choose File> Save A Copy For > Mobile Device
Type in 500 x 500 pixels for width and height. (for square layouts)
Choose Scale to Fit
Make sure Optimize File Size is checked
Choose Save As and name.
For DIP 10
Choose File > Save For...> Device
Enter 500x500 pixels as a custom measurement.
From the Color Setting select 65536 colors
Select Scale to Fit.
Choose Save As and name the file.
METHOD 2
Select Format > Resize Image
Change the Pixel Dimensions to 500 x 500 (Ensure Maintain Proportions is checked)
Click on the radio button next to Pixel dimensions to lock the setting and change the Resolution to 96ppi
Choose OK
Navigate to the folder you wish to save the layout in.
Name the layout (there should be no spaces in the file name) and from the Save as type drop down box, choose JPEG
Select the Options button
Change the quality compression level to 90, for a 12x12 layout 85 may be necessary. NB. Whatever you set your quality level at, it will be the same level when next you save a jpg so you may need to change it back to 100 if saving a layout in jpg for printing
Click OK
Click Save
Check the file to ensure the layout is under 125kb. For heavily embellished layouts and layouts 12x12, you may need to reduce the Options> Quality level slider further but avoid going under 80. If necessary you can resize a 12x12 duplicate layout to 8x8 after flattening and before saving.
METHOD 3
Select your layout.
Choose File> Save A Copy> For E-mail or Web...
Choose Medium Web View from the Picture Size drop down menu. Ignore the File size indicator as it will change with the next step
Choose Save As...
By default the layout is saved into My Documents> Email and Web Folder. Browse to choose another location if desired.
Name the layout
Select Options and set the Quality Level to 90
Click OK
Click Save, the folder you saved to automatically launches.
NB: Any textured work in a layout (canvas textures in particular) suffers badly from distortion when saving in a size for the web. Unfortunately this is a quirk of DIP.
