Want to know how to make those cool abstract / grunge / papers and elements you see in Digital Scrapbooking? This is a quick explanation of how it is done.

Create a new image , for this tutorial we are going to have to make it 12x12 inches with 300ppi with a WHITE background.

The general idea behind this effect is having random interesting photos to start with then using color and dodge layers to change the look. You will need stock photos a good place for these is ImageAfter.com

Depending on the look you want to create, try to get images with lots of detail. I like objects such as flowers, textured, outdoor images, designs, etc. Once you find your photos place each one of them on a new layer, on your new image, so you can adjust each image independent of the other layers. Arrange them so that they cover various areas of your new image. See the screen shot of my layers and how they randomly overlap and the various types of images that I used. I named the layers with the setting of the Blend Modes. These of course will vary depending on the colors in your images and how you want your paper to look.

Final effects of just a little what can be done with grunge abstract papers. They are so fun and easy to achieve.
