Converting a photograph to a sketch can be accomplished in a variety of ways depending upon the desired look you are after. This tutorial shows you how to use the standard filters available in the various versions of Digital Image Pro to create the sketch look.

Select your photograph.

For a traditional sketch, first turn your photo black and white. If you don’t know how to do this, view these tutorials Turning Color Photographs Black and White in DIP 9 and 10 or Turning Color Photographs Black and White in DIP 2006 Suite

Choose Effects> Filters > All Filters

Below are examples of the effects of several different filters. Experiment with changing the Advanced Options to create the look you want.

Pencil: Blurry Sketch

Pencil: Drawing (Change Paper Brightness to 50)

Pencil: Sketch

Pencil: Light Sketch

Stamp:Woodcut Fine

If you want a color sketch then leave your original image in color and try some of the following options:

Pen: Line Drawing

Pencil: Drawing (Change Paper Brightness to 50)

Pencil: Soft Sketch
