This technique should also work and/or be similar for Photoshop Users.

Created with PSE2.

 1.     Open the png file to be converted to a brush.

2.     Click on the brush icon in the tool palette.

a.      For PSE2: also right click on your brush and ensure that impressionist brush is NOT selected.

3.     Now we will create a brush set so that your new brush conversions do not get mixed in with your default brushes later.

4.     By clicking the drop down and then the small arrow at right…. Next select “preset manager”

5.     Click on icon #1 and then while holding the shift key – click on the last one – select delete.

a.      If this doesn’t work – click on the first one and then while holding the shift key – click on EACH ONE and continually select all the icons and then delete.

6.     Click on done once they have all been deleted.

7.     Now be certain you have the image selected that you are turning into an actual brush (the png or jpg file).

8.     Edit > Define Brush.

a.      Name the brush to your liking (ie: TrishBrush4) or name it of the set you purchased or downloaded… entirely up to you.

9.     Now you will save the brush set as it’s own set so you don’t replace any of your default brush groups.

a.      Click again on the drop down and the small arrow at right.

b.     Save brushes

c.      Ie: “trishgrungedoutbrushes”

d.     You can save this BRUSH SET anywhere on your computer.

10.  Now you are done and can repeat the above steps 7-9 saving your brush set after each one to ensure your group is saved and you don’t need to redo any of it.
