This tutorial will show you how to create text on a path
using Paint Shop Pro 9.0.
1. Create a new file (shortcut: Control+N).
2. Select the Ellipse Tool (shortcut: Q) and click on
Draw Circle under the Mode.
3. Choose a color for your foreground and leave the
background null. The color for the foreground does not matter as this will be
made invisible during a later step. In the example, I chose black.
4. Choose a solid line style and change the line width to
1.0. Be sure the Create on Vector box is checked.
5. Draw a circle onto your canvas.
6. Center the circle on your canvas by using the Object
Selection Tool and clicking on Center in Canvas under “Position on canvas.”
7. The circle should now be centered in the middle of your
canvas.
8. Select the Text Tool (shortcut: T) and choose your
font, font size, and font color. Be sure the text is created as a vector. For
the example, I’ve used a black background and Arial at 24pt.
9. Hover your cursor over the circle until you see the
Text tool change to an “A” with a curve below it.
10. Click once on the file and begin typing your text.
When text is entered, click on Apply.
11. Your text should have conformed to the shape of the
circle.
12. Depending on the direction of your circle’s path, the
text may result in text either on the outside of the circle (see image above) or
on the inside of the circle:
13. If you desire to change the position of your text, the
circle’s direction will need to be changed. Select the Pen Tool.
14. On the layers palette, click once on the layer that
contains the circle.
15. Right-click on the canvas and choose Edit > Reverse
Path. This will change the direction of your text.
16. Once your text is positioned as you want it, make the
circle shape invisible by clicking on the Visibility Toggle on the Layers
palette.
17. You should now have text left on your canvas in the
shape of a circle.
18. Convert the vector layer containing your text into a
raster layer (Right-click on vector layer in palette > Convert to Raster Layer).
19. Congratulations, you have just created text on a
path! Be sure to experiment with different fonts, sizes, kerning, offset
values, etc.
